Dear Harvard College Students,

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy, wherever you may be. I write today from a quiet Harvard College campus with some good news on a recent staff appointment.

Today, I am pleased to announce that Sheehan Scarborough, AB '07, MDiv '14, has been appointed as Senior Director of the Harvard Foundation.

Founded in 1981 under the leadership of Dr. S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation plays a critically important role in our community. The Foundation is guided by a mission of bringing together students across all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds in support of programming and initiatives that highlight the strength of our diversity. Over the years, the Foundation staff and its strong Harvard Foundation intern team has promoted its mission through campus-wide programs, such as the Humanitarian Award, Cultural Rhythms, and support for the Student Advisory Council among others. Sheehan will work with the team to strengthen and expand the work of the Foundation. He will soon join the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team led by incoming Associate Dean Alta Mauro, who will join the Dean of Students Office in the coming weeks.

Sheehan has been a tremendous partner within the Dean of Students Office for many years, serving as Director of BGLTQ Student Life since the fall of 2016 and assuming the role of Interim Director of the Harvard Foundation in August 2019.  In these roles, he has been instrumental in helping to promote diversity, inclusiveness, and the intersection of the multiple identities of students across all facets of the College and creating a welcoming environment for all members of our community. Previously, he served as Assistant Director of Student Services for the Harvard Summer School and was a Proctor in the former Freshman Dean's Office. A graduate of Harvard College, Sheehan also holds a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School.

I have had the chance to work closely with Sheehan during my time as Dean of Students, and I have seen firsthand the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment he brings to our students and to the Harvard community every single day. I know he will bring that same passion to the Harvard Foundation.

Now, more than ever, we take heart in celebrating our commitment to community and inclusion at Harvard College. I hope you will join me in congratulating Sheehan on his new role.

Kind Regards,

Katie O'Dair
