Family Weekend

Family Weekend is a wonderful opportunity for parents and family members of the Classes of 2025 and 2027 to experience Harvard College through student eyes. Running from Thursday, October 26, through Sunday, October 29, parents and family members will have a chance to participate in courses and engage in discussions with faculty, meet other families, receive valuable information and helpful resources for the student experience, and learn about all that Harvard has to offer. At the beginning of the fall term, the Parent and Family Engagement team will share more details on how families can register for the weekend, along with event details.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Monday, August 7: Complete Orientation Module

Prepare for your move to campus and set yourself up for success by completing the required online Orientation module before the due date. Note: pre-reading materials for Community Conversations have been added and should be completed by Thursday, August 31.


Wednesday, August 9: HSA Dorm Essentials Pre-Order

If you want packages, water plans, or MicroFridges, the pre-order deadline is Wednesday, August 9, at 5PM EDT.


Tuesday, August 15: Fall Tuition Payments Due

Your student account statement is sent electronically to your student email address. Get details in this introduction to billing at Harvard.


Thursday, August 31: Complete Education Module: AlcoholEdu

AlcoholEdu® is an interactive online program that uses the latest evidence-based prevention methods to help you make safer decisions related to alcohol and other drugs. Check your email from Wednesday, August 3, for a message from Vector LMS with your log-in credentials for this module.


Thursday, August 31: Complete Education Module: Mental Health and Wellbeing

This training equips you with information and tips on ways to support individual wellbeing, where to seek help when needed, and how to help a friend in need.


Thursday, August 31: Complete Education Module: Preventing and Responding to Sexual Harassment and Other Sexual Misconduct

This module covers Harvard’s policies and resources and the prevention of sexual misconduct and harassment.

ACADEMICS

How to Harvard Webinar Recordings

If you were unable to attend either of the How to Harvard webinars hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Education, the recordings are now available within the Intellectual Transformation module on Canvas and on the Incoming Students page of the Advising Programs Office website.

Advising Assignments

You will receive your academic advising assignment in my.harvard this week. Academic advisors will reach out to students to schedule an advising conversation between now and Tuesday, August 15. If you do not hear from your advisor by Tuesday, August 15, you are welcome to email them. You must meet with your advisor and have the advising hold on your Crimson Cart lifted to enroll in courses, prior to the course registration deadline of Thursday, August 31. Peer Advising Fellows (PAF) assignments will also appear in my.harvard later this week, and you can expect to hear from your PAF shortly thereafter.

International Students Information Session

As a reminder, the Office of International Education (OIE) and Harvard International Office (HIO) will hold an information session this Wednesday, August 9, at 9AM EDT. This virtual conversation is meant for first-year students who have non-US citizenship and a non-US permanent residence, dual citizenship but live elsewhere, or US citizens whose permanent residence is outside of the US.

First-Year Seminars

The First-Year Seminar Program application is currently open. A unique experience exclusive to first-year students, First-Year Seminars bring together one instructor with a small group of students to study a topic of keenly shared interest. Explore the fall seminar offerings, and apply by Friday, August 25, at 11AM EDT

First-Year Seminar Program-Zoom Office HoursThursday, August 10, 10-11AM EDT. Ask your questions about this ideal introduction to Harvard's intellectual opportunities.

HUM 10 Information Session

As the Arts & Humanities Division’s introduction to the study of literary humanities, Humanities 10 offers a wide-ranging, year-long conversation about literature, art, and philosophy. It is also the only course outside of Expos to satisfy the Harvard College writing requirement when completed as a full-year sequence. Learn more about the coming year’s Hum 10 program from course faculty and staff at this virtual information session on Tuesday, August 15, at 10:30AM EDT. 

Premed/Pre-Health Information Sessions

  • Monday, August 14, at 2PM EDT, science faculty and premedical advisors will hold a virtual information session to discuss which courses meet premed requirements, as well as share helpful resources for students considering a medical career. 
  • Wednesday, August 16, at 1PM EDT, attend a Q&A and meet the premedical and pre-health advisors and the Pre-Health Peer Advising Fellows (PAFs). This is an opportunity to bring whatever questions you have about courses and being premed/pre-health. 
  • Wednesday, August 23, at 7PM EDT, the Mignone Center for Career Success (MCS) will hold a Pre-Health Question Center where you can meet with the Pre-Health PAFs to ask how to use MCS premed/pre-health resources, raise any course questions, and discover how these PAFs have built their time at Harvard.

Math Department Events

The Math Department will hold two virtual live events for first-year students. These will also be recorded and available on their website following the events.  

Starting Monday, August 21, Math advisors will be available for advising sessions to help students decide which calculus course to take for the Fall 2023 semester. Sign up for a session on the Math Placement Advisor page.

History: The Who, The What, The Why

Learn more about the History Program and its courses in a conversation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies Thursday, August 10, at 12PM EDT. Register in advance for this virtual meeting.

SEAS Events

  • CS Overview/Q&A Webinar: Monday, August 14, 1-2PM EDT. Learn about the Computer Science (CS) concentration, receive general information, and have your questions answered live during this session. Register by Friday, August 11.
  • Engineering Overview/Q&A Webinar: Wednesday, August 16, 12-1PM EDT. Learn about all four tracks of the Engineering concentration (Biomedical, Electrical, Environmental Science & Engineering, and Mechanical), receive general information, and have your questions answered live during this session. Register by Monday, August 14.

African and African American Studies (AAS) Q&A

The AAAS Department will host an informational session on Thursday, August 17, at 2PM EDT. At this session, three AAAS advisors will be present to answer questions that students might have: Dr. Bojana Coulibaly, African Language Program Manager; Dr. Carla D. Martin, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies; and Keirsten Melbourne, Graduate and Undergraduate Coordinator.

Peer Counseling at Harvard College

You can access confidential peer counseling through six distinct student organizations, staffed by counselors trained to support their fellow students. Five of the groups—Contact, ECHO, Indigo, Response and Room 13—offer 1:1 support through drop-in and phone line hours, and HUGPT additionally offers a peer group therapy model. Counselors are trained to create a safe, non-judgmental space where students can openly share concerns, whether they be academic, personal or professional, or about relationships, identity, social topics, or other issues.
