Setting Up Your Harvard Email Account

Envelope

Communications for students will initially be sent to the personal email account you provided to Harvard Admissions, the one you use to access the admitted student portal. Once you have set up your Harvard email account, we will begin communicating through that. Throughout the month of May, please check both accounts. We anticipate using only your Harvard email after June 1.

Class Email List

List

You will automatically be subscribed to your Class email list. You are responsible for reading all messages sent to your Harvard email account and cannot claim ignorance of any information sent over the Class list. Over the summer we recommend that you check your email account weekly as there are many deadlines and opportunities that occur throughout that time. Once the term starts, you should check your Harvard email account daily.

Unsubscribing

Cancel Email

You retain control over your email account and may unsubscribe from the Class list at any time. If you unsubscribe your Harvard email, we recommend that you subscribe with another email account to stay informed of important information – it is your responsibility to complete all action items before you arrive. Your Resident Dean may also reach out to you if you unsubscribe. While we do not recommend that you unsubscribe, a list of emails sent to the class will be available below.

First-Year Experience Office (FYE) Messages

Emails sent from the FYE to members of the Class of 2027 will be posted to the website the week as soon as they are shared with students.

Summer in the Yard Newsletter

The Summer in the Yard is a weekly email update exclusively for incoming students! You should expect to receive the newsletter Mondays beginning in June. Please review the newsletter each week to stay on top of upcoming deadlines and to learn about relevant resources.

Class of 2027 Slack Workspace

Slack is an online messaging platform that connects you with other students, staff, and faculty. The platform allows you to start conversations, create channels for affinity groups and more, share files, and publicize events. You’ll start in the “#general” channel, but #yard and #entryway channels will be created once housing assignments are released at the end of July. You will be part of the “The Yard-Class of 2027" Slack workspace.

How to join the workspace

You will receive an email invitation to join this workspace, but you can also launch Slack on your own, visit harvard-yard-2027.slack.com, and request to join.

Help and community norms

Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) has consolidated resources to support you with Slack, which you can find here. Since this is a communal workspace, we ask that you abide by our community norms and expectations regarding electronic communication. Treat each other respectfully and with the thought and care that we value.
