Nekesa C. Straker
I am responsible for leading the First-Year Experience (FYE) office, which includes supervising the Resident Deans of First-Year Students, overseeing residential life initiatives to help orient and support students transitioning into Harvard, and coordinating housing assignments for incoming students. I also work to train the Residential Staff, to partner with the Student Engagement team to plan and implement orientation programs, Convocation, advising programs within the Office of Undergraduate Education, and serve as a member of the Administrative Board.
Spare time is a luxury, as I am currently a doctoral candidate at Regis College in the Higher Education Leadership program focusing on the moral development of college students. When I do have time, I enjoy international travel, attempting to take over the Peloton leaderboard, being on the board of the Aloha Foundation, and cooking.
I have been at Harvard since June 2019 and prior to that I was the Director of Residential Education at Boston College and also worked at DePaul University, New York University and The Bush School. I graduated with a Masters in Student Development Administration from Seattle University and a Bachelors in Political Science from Vassar College. I am a proud Brearley School graduate and Prep for Prep alumnae, representing contingent XIII.
