Oscar Mairena

I will be serving as the Interim Resident Dean at Currier House this term. As such, I'm here to help promote Currier students' wellbeing in academic and other matters. I want to help facilitate student success at Harvard and beyond by connecting them to campus resources, offering an ear to listen, and providing any assistance I can.

I’m a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) candidate at the Harvard Chan School and I did my undergrad in Social Welfare and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. I also did my Masters in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. My work focuses on achieving health equity and improving the health and lives of the most vulnerable among us, especially communities of color and LGBTQ+ folks.

I’ve worn a lot of different hats in my career and have worked in government, communications, marketing, policy, advocacy, community engagement and health in the public and private sectors. If you’re interested in any of those areas, I’d love to chat about it. I was a first-generation college student and I look forward to sharing all the things I’ve learned along the way with you.

Outside of my house duties, I enjoy running, hiking, camping and the beach. You may also see me around with my shih-tzu/poodle, Ashby, who acts like a puppy but is 13 years old! She’s super friendly and loves humans, so feel free to say hi to both of us!
