Remei Capdevila Werning

Allston Burr Resident Dean of Winthrop House, Assistant Dean of Harvard College
Lecturer in Philosophy
Remei Capdevila Werner

This is my first year serving as Resident Dean. I am originally from Olot, a town amidst volcanoes in Catalonia, Spain. I received a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.A. in Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where I also completed my Ph.D. in Philosophy. Before finishing my dissertation, I pursued a SMArchS in History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture and Art at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a predoctoral visiting scholar at Harvard. Prior to joining Harvard, I taught at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, at Oberlin College, and served as Director of Education and Public Programs at El Museo del Barrio in New York City.

In addition to my role as Resident Dean, I am a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, where I will teach courses in aesthetics and philosophy of architecture, my fields of expertise. My current research focuses on intergenerational aesthetics, philosophical issues of preservation and geoheritage, and aesthetics of borderlands. Aside from chatting about philosophy, I enjoy baking, most kinds of music, and discussing all things related to Catalonia and Catalan language and culture.

I am here to provide academic and personal advice and support, and to help you navigate Harvard’s many resources. I also represent Winthrop students on the Ad Board and work with you on any petitions you may file. Mostly, I look forward to getting to know each of you! So please get in touch with me and don’t hesitate to contact me regarding anything that may be on your mind.

I take she/ella pronouns.
