BEFORE ARRIVAL
Complete Pre-Arrival Testing
IMPORTANT: We encourage everyone to test before arriving on campus. Rapid home antigen tests are widely available in local pharmacies, and insurance generally covers the cost.
Step 1: Test before you depart to travel to campus.
Take whatever test is available where you are.
- You can find a list of testing locations near you on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
- Rapid home antigen tests are widely available in local pharmacies, and insurance generally covers the cost.
- If you are coming from outside of the U.S. and need help accessing testing, please contact your local health department.
Step 2: Take action based on your test results.
If positive, isolate at home and report your results to HUHS via Crimson Clear.
- Do not return to campus until discharged from isolation by HUHS contact tracers.
- You should expect to hear from the HUHS Contact Tracing Team within two to three days of reporting your positive test result.
- If you received a positive result greater than five days ago, pending resolving symptoms and no fever for 24 hours, you are authorized to return to campus. You should also email your Resident Dean of First-Year Students or Allston Burr Resident Dean to let them know about your change in plans.
If negative, keep your travel plans.
- You do not need to report your results via Crimson Clear or to HUHS if you test negative.
Step 3: Prepare an isolation comfort kit to bring with you or plan to purchase these items on your way to campus.
Suggested items include:
- acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil)
- Thermometer
- Snacks
- Any prescription medication you might need
- Personal care items (cough drops, contact lens fluid, tissues) etc.

- If you test positive on the antigen test, follow the COVID-19 Isolation Protocol.
Step 2: Take precautions to avoid spreading or catching the virus.
- Follow University guidance regarding masking. Masks are available from your building manager or Yard Ops (for Dudley Community and first-year students).
- All students will have access to appropriate supplies for cleaning bathrooms. If you are responsible for cleaning your bathroom, review the bathroom cleaning guide.
- Test if advised to do so by HUHS or if you are symptomatic.
