First-Generation, Low-Income
The Office of Community and Culture seeks to provide additional support and deepen the College’s commitment to its First-Generation, Low-Income (FGLI) student population. Recognizing the unique and intersectional experiences of FGLI students navigating higher education, the Harvard Foundation serves the College by connecting current FGLI students to resources that enable them to thrive at Harvard College. We also develop programming that enhances understanding of possible FGLI student experiences among the broader Harvard College student population. Our office’s open engagement policy encourages students from every community to participate and create connections.
FGLI Visibility Week 2025
First-Generation, Low-Income (FGLI) Visibility Week: is a week of programming organized by the Harvard Foundation. This celebratory week aims to increase awareness about the unique experiences and challenges that FGLI students may have in our higher education system, celebrate the diverse and intersectional identities and perspectives within the FGLI community, and connect FGLI students to campus resources so that they feel empowered to thrive at Harvard College.
This year, one of the highlights of FGLI Visibility week was hosting U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona for an engaging and thoughtful conversation about his journey in the field of education.
