First-Year Faculty Dinners

Invite faculty to dinner in Annenberg

Professor Asani with students in Annenberg

First-year students have the opportunity to attend a special dinner in Annenberg once a semester. The dinner is a great way to get to know faculty and staff better, and to engage them in conversations about their academic work, research, career path, or general interests. Who you invite is up to you!

  • Professor
  • Teaching Fellow
  • Preceptor
  • Proctor
  • Coach
  • Adviser
  • Dean or other administrator

Dinner Logistics

  • Annenberg's chefs plan a special menu for the occasion, with flowers decorating the tables.
  • This is event is free for you and your guest.
  • Dressy attire, like First-Year Convocation, is suggested: skirts, slacks, blouses, button-down shirts, blazers, ties, and nice shoes. No jeans or sneakers.
  • Make plans for where you would like to meet your guest, and exchange contact information. We recommend designating a spot outside of Memorial Hall so that you can easily meet up with your guest.
  • Students and guests are welcome to arrive any time between 4:30 and 7:30 pm. Note that a fairly long time period has been set aside for dinner so that some people can come earlier and others later, at their convenience and without overcrowding.
  • A few tables in Annenberg will be reserved for students who attend without a guest. Because of expected crowding around 6:00 pm, we ask that students without guests try to eat between 4:30 and 5:30 pm.

If you would like to invite a faculty member but are not sure how, talk with your proctor or PAF to work out some strategies. You can invite your guest in person, on the phone, or by email. A sample email invitation might read:

Dear Dean Dumbledore,

I hope this email finds you well. I greatly appreciated your advice about course selection; the freshman seminar with Professor McGonagall is fantastic! If you are available, would you be interested in joining me for the First-Year Faculty Dinner in Annenberg? The dinner is on Thursday, November 7th, and we could eat anytime between 4:30 and 7:30 pm, whenever is most convenient for you. Please let me know whether you can attend.

With thanks and best wishes,
Chris A. Student
